I live in washington state, I posted someone's name and phone number in a message board and told people to prank call,I did not know it was against the law but i have been reported and want to know what legal penalties i'll face. I am 14 and have no prior arrests on my record I need to know what kind of trouble i'll be in and how to make my situation better. Please tell me what the charges will be and how to make it go better for me, the day after i posted the message i posted another one and told them not to prank call and i did not know it was against the law but it is too late. By the way this guy hates me and will probley press charges.

Uhm, unless it was an unlisted number, it's not illegal (and possibly not even if it was unlisted). Who told you it was?

And if you expect to get anywhere in high school, you really need to start working on learning some more creative pranks.

I wouldn't blame him if he does.

Haven't you ever heard to never post phone numbers and other private imformaton on web sites, IM, and chats? Posting someone elses phone number or other private information, violates that perons privacy.

Here are a few laws I found that violate someones right to privacy.

Have the cops called or come to your house? How do you know it was reported?

I'm would be willing to bet mom and dad might take away internet and computer time away.

RCW 9.73.060
Violating right of privacy -- Civil action -- Liability for damages.
Any person who, directly or by means of a detective agency or any other agent, violates the provisions of this chapter shall be subject to legal action for damages, to be brought by any other person claiming that a violation of this statute has injured his business, his person, or his reputation. A person so injured shall be entitled to actual damages, including mental pain and suffering endured by him on account of violation of the provisions of this chapter, or liquidated damages computed at the rate of one hundred dollars a day for each day of violation, not to exceed one thousand dollars, and a reasonable attorney's fee and other costs of litigation.

Yup. Invasion of privacy.

And you need to work on better pranks. When you get to highschool (if you're not already in it), you'll see a lot pranks you'd never even thought about.

Sorry folks, but it's not an invasion of anything to post/publish/skywrite public information which a phone number certainly is.

As long as nothing illegal is done with it, say, oh, I don't know, like writing it on the stall of a gay bar with a "For an adequate time, call Victim at 732-555-5555", or maybe even posting it on a newsgroup with a message like "Hot young 15 year old girl seeks older man to be her first". No, never do anything like that.

Yes, you will be indicted and not only will it be a felony charge, you are eligible for the mandatory maximum sentence of 25-to-life. I hope you have a good defense.

what exactly did you put on the message board?it depends if you put prank this person, you will be fine but if you put call for good**** or something sexual, racial etc. you will be facing charges now a felony i dont think so also since you are a minor you can erase your record when you turn 18 so dont worry about it all you have to worry about is probation
