I would like to know if I have a chance of reducing or canceling my alimony payment. Your opinion would be appreciated. If it is not worth pursuing, please tell me.
I was working two full time jobs when I got divorced, one 8 hour day shift and one 8 hour night shift. I did this for 9 years because my ex wife insisted and got us into all kinds of debt. My health started to fail and right before I filed for divorce, I was admitted to the ER for chest pain, due to stress. I was in ICU for several days. They called it angina due to overwork and stress. It has been four years since the divorce. Since the divorce, I have not been able to work two full time jobs, due to Type 2 diabetes and 4 herniated discs and the worry of angina again. I have worked one and a half jobs since the divorce, but find that my health would be better if I worked only one 8 hour job. I worked as a CNA when I was married before, but due to herniated discs, I had to go into security guard work, ($10 an hour). The part time job I have had has been as a service station cashier, the only job I can find after my other day job. Now, however, I have quit my service station job because they have cut my 24 hours a week to 16 hours a week and I am not making it financially. I have applied at many many places, but due to the slow economy, I have yet to get a second job. I have $100 worth of prescription expenses a month for diabetes.
My question is this...my ex wife makes $10 an hour, I think, or more. I am having trouble paying child support $200 a month and alimony $200 a month on my take home income of $1300 at my present one 8 hour job.
I am remarried and my wife has a home. I also have an old car of hers that I can use, but will need a new one soon. Is there any possibility of changing or eliminating this alimony? I live in Utah.
Thank you for any answers.
