We are very pleased to provide focused discussions and educational resources for landlords and tenants in the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago. In 1986, the City of Chicago adopted an Ordinance that covers many of the relationships between landlords and tenants.

Called the Chicago Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance, the City of Chicago adopted this ordinance to "level the playing field" between the rights of landlords and the then few rights of tenants. The ordinance has often been called the "Tenants' Bill of Rights."

These discussions are not intended to be legal advice and further, are not intended to forge lawyer/client relationships.

These discussions ARE intended to educate landlords and tenants as to their rights and obligations as landlords and tenants and to, hopefully, assist landlords and tenants to work together to improve and enhance the quality of housing in Chicago and Illinois and to help prevent disputes from going to Court.

Post your QUESTIONS and SUBJECT

From an organizational point of view, we are going to try to classify inquiries and keep them in separate threads. This may be easier to say then to do, but we will try.

It is important that each posting person attempt to classify their inquiry. For example:

1. You may have problems with the need for repairs to your apartment. A thread on "REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE" would fill the bill here.

2. You may have security deposit questions. We could call this thread: "SECURITY DEPOSITS".

3. If you think your landlord has retaliated against you because you have demanded repairs, that thread could be: "RETALIATION".

4. Lawyers may have more detailed questions about the interpretation of the law or court cases that have come down from the higher courts in Illinois. We can call this thread: "LAWYERS DISCUSSIONS OF THE LAW".

To-be-sure, we do not want to restrict anyone in making entries here and getting their inquiries into the forum, so don't let the above prevent you from asking your question or telling us about your situation.
