Illinois. What is a person’s recourse when they have stored furniture and other possessions in a commercial storage facility that goes out of business? The owner of the storage facility is not accepting rent payments, has closed its office and the storage facility remains locked. There is a possibility that the local sheriff may be planning to evict the owner of the storage facility and place the contents of the tenant’s storage lockers on the street. Is there a way for customers storing possession in the facility to gain access and remove their belongings?

I strongly urge you to retain an attorney, perhaps after you do a good amount of investigation about the facts. You should call the Sheriff's office and any other people that may be able to tell you what is going on and how to claim your property.

You might even have to file a lawsuit to get your goods back, but, again, that will take a lawyer in your area to help you.

I suggest you act quickly.
