Hello, I live in MICHIGAN. I am 18, I lived with my mother and step-father until I was 7, when my step-father went to prison then my mother raised me alone up until now. Now this is complicated. My step-father in prison is the real father of my two older brothers, and I thought he was my real father until I was 13 and he wrote me a letter explaining who my real father was and why they never told me about it. My mother cheated on my step-dad in 1984 with a guy she worked with, and i was concieved from him. My mother knew who my real father was, and so did my step-dad. But they never told me or my brothers. They finally ended up telling my brothers when i was about 7 or 8, then told them not to tell me. My real father also knew ever since i was born, but never did anything about it. He never wanted to raise me or anything i guess. My mom still talked to him when my dad went to prison, between my ages of 7 and 13 I never knew this guy that my mother talked to was my dad, that's because he never bought me anything or supported me in any way although he came to my house and seen how much my mother was struggling paying bills and taking care of 3 boys by her self. He did nothing, and still hasnt to this day. Im now 18, and a friend from work told me that I might be able to get backed child support from him although i have never confronted him about it. I can take a simple DNA test to prove hes my dad. So that is not an issue in this question. I just want to know what i can do, if anything, about this messed up confusing situation. Oh yeah, and my step-dad signed my birth cert as my real father, so not even the hospital knew about my real father. I hope somoene has some good advice for me......

*YOU* are not entitled to child support -- so *you* can't sue him for dittely........child support is money paid from the NCP to the CP to help offset the expenses incurred by the CP in caring for/raising the child.......child support is not a benefit due the child but rather a benefit due to the CP.....

Not to mention the fact that since your step father signed the birth certificate, he is considered your legal father. And since you are an adult, it may be impossible to force some other man to take a DNA test now. IAAL wrote about this on this site somewhere.....
