Immunization Q from ncp

What is the name of your state?VA I have JLC of my 3yr 4m old daughter. Do I have any rights over the decision to have my daughter properly immunized under the state guidlines? Health records show that she had her first round of shots during first 2 months of birth......but nothing afterward. I confronted cp over this matter several times and was promised that her shots would be up to date by the time she was 2. However, nothing has been done. I would get my daughter immunized during the E/O weekend schedual that I have custody but I am concerned of a few things. Shots are based on a schedual and some are in series. I believe that if a series is broken, the child may have to start that series all over again. Also, if I did this against CP will, I would have some serious drama to deal with and more legal problems. I'm stuck on what to do...that is, if I can do anything. CP has only said that she's afraid that our daughter might get sick or even die from an immunization shot. I'm sure everyone has heard the controversy over that. This has nothing to do with religion or serious health risk.

Yes, you can have them done.

They are state-required, and the child may not enter school without them. As for the schedule - series shots, such as the Hepatitis B, are not 'exact' - meaning that the 2nd and 3rd do not have be done EXACTLY at the 2nd and 6th month after the 1st, just thereabout. So your E/O arrangement won't be a problem. Oh, and if your ex makes a fuss, ask if home-schooling is an option.

You certainly DO have a right to be concerned. Not only got health, but because she may not be allowed to start school without them.

Talk to her pediatrician and arrange it yourself. I had to arrange a triple catch-up immunization for my daughter because, even though her medical report from the orphanage listed certain immunizations, the QUALITY, and reality of her immunizations was uncertain. To be safe, we just redid the series on most. So, go ahead and arrange it if the pediatrician concurs. If there is no medical problem that precludes her getting immunized, it is negligent to not make sure certain immunizations are done.

Her pediatrician said they only take sick patience on weekends. I will ask if they can make special appointments for me due to certain circumstances. I suppose I could change pediatricians if it comes to that. I will take care of this soon no matter what but I'm not sure about the legalities of me controlling this matter. And I have no problem with that.....but lets face it, the cp has our daughter like 90% of the time. Whats the hold up? If CP is as careless about this matter, I don't want to even think about what will happen in the next 15 yrs.

OP, please be advised that not all states require the child to be vaccinated to attend a public school. I have heard that before, but you can type in Parents rights not to vaccinate in any search engine and find the reason.

I am not saying I don't agree with having your child immunized. I am saying that it isn't required by all state laws to get your child into school.

Doctors

After the first shot, your ex is going to know...because if I remember correctly, there was a pretty big red spot on my babies leg for a few days and a bump. I doubt the shots have changed much in the last 8 years.

Plus if you are taking her to the same Dr your ex goes to, she will know the next time she takes your daughter in. Maybe for now a new Dr would be better, then just have her records copied for the old Dr. I am curious as to why the Dr has never requested these shots be done, have you asked him?

I researched and it looks like Virginia is a state that requires this before starting school.

VA requires that a parent or legal guardian must have a certified form stating that they do not want the child immunized due to religion, if thats what they wish. I looked at the form used from the dept of health....and it is a very simple form. It doesn't even ask what religion you are. Her pediatrician did tell me to have a serious talk with CP about getting her in for check ups and shots. CP hasn't taken our daughter to the doc for anything other than to emergency room for a stomache virus and an ear infection. no regular visits or even a check up. I have taken her for a check up at age 3 and like I said I will take care of the immunizations per Public school and state guidlines. I still am not sure if I can do what I need to do without any legal problems. In JLC...the CP has more say so from what I understand....This whole thing is about Getting our daughter into school with no problems or delays. Social services told me that CP could be charged with neglect if Immunizations are the reason for child missing the first year of school. I'm trying to get this done and know everything I need to know before her schooling starts.I wouldn't mind cp being charged with something...lol but I would rather have our daughter in school when she needs to be. I would hate for her to be behind in school due to her parents issues. Maybe I should ask for custody during this period so that I can make sure she gets all the shots she needs among other things before she goes to school. CP is not responsable of our daughter and I can prove that in more ways then one.
