Yes, the flu is a serious illness. Tens of thousands of people die from it every year, some of whom were otherwise healthy. Many more people are hospitalized. Even some who don't smoke or have other health problems. Please, people, get your flu shots. It's not 100% effective, but any chance at lowering your risk of getting it is better than nothing.

Not just the flu shot, but the pneumonia shot as well for any us over 50...and it doesn't hurt if you are younger than 50 either. I certainly will never skip either one again.

Actually, if you ask and have a history, the doc may give the pneumonia shot even if you are under 50. I have asthma, a history of bronchitis and pneumonia, so I get the shot.
