I am a student from Oregon. i want to know, are there any forms or paper work that I can fill out to be legally an independant student? I am 21, parent doesn't claim me, was independant for 2 years at previous instution. The finincial aid officer at Pacific university says the only way to be independant is to have parent in an institution, encarcerated, or have it be physically or emotionally disturbing. None of the latter are true. I just want to be responsable for myself. I haven't lived at home since I was 16, it was then that I became fin. independant, in my eyes, and stopped living with parent. Is there anything that i can do???

The person at your university is incorrect. so what you do is go to the dean; if that is a bust, go to the local elected officials.
