Individual video rights as a member of a performing group

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington

I'm a member of an adult community jazz band. Recently the leader informed us that he will control all uploading of video images of this group. No member has signed any agreement, contract, nor made any verbal agreement to abide by this decision. What are the individual member's rights as to control of their own internet presence in this situation?

The fact that he is designated as the leader- implies, at some point, the band elected him as such. And, as the leader, can make decisions on behalf of the group.

As YAG is pointing out, being "in" the video doesn't give you any rights. There's rights by the person who made the video and if you were performing a song, rights to the copyright holder of the song.

The video was made, and is owned by, an audience member at the performance. I'll concede that the leader was elected by voice vote;however, the scope of his right to make decisions for the group was not made entirely clear. Several areas of control were discussed and agreed upon. Control over media involvement was not one of these areas. I do not believe that copyright issues were the basis for the leader's decision to control the media exposure, as was stated in his communication regarding this issue.

Was the audience member recording at request of the leader? And where is this video now?

If the audience member recorded it, themselves, then they own it. The band may not have stipulated no recording devices allowed, without express permission, at the performance. And, if the audience member was given permission by a band member... then the band's issue is with that member. The audience member owns the video and can do with it whatever they want.
