C @ D means just that, you nor the collection agency have the privilege to clairify the terms to mean by phone, mail, email. Stop means stop.

Consult a non profit credit counseling agency. They will assist you with this matter and all your other debt problems. This can not be your only bill or concern. This is just the beginning if you are not able to work. Get control now before your ringer breaks or your nerves go first.

My response:

I know you don't follow my reasoning, and I'm sorry that you don't. It's because of your inability to understand that will cause you to be sued sooner than later.

It's an unfortunate situation in which you find yourself, but that's no reason to use "medical" services, and not have insurance or to pay for those services out of your own pocket, and as you promised when you signed on the dotted line.

You used someone else's assistance, education, experience, and knowledge that they had to pay for (i.e., they received and paid for an education), and now you want to "not pay" or to not be dunned by the people who want their money.

Well, for whatever reason (probably a lack of education), you don't have a good enough job to afford services that you can't pay. That's not our fault. Perhaps you should have studied in school better, or not cut classes. But, for whatever reason, you can't pay your debts. You see, it finally caught up to you, didn't it.

So, what do you think happens to those debts that can't be collected? Do you think they just disappear? No. Uncollected debts get passed on to the next set of consumers in higher costs. Thank you very much, but I don't want to pay your debts in the form of higher costs to me.

Get a job, or get a better paying job. Pay your debts.

Credit Counseling isn't always the answer, and if there is no income to make payments under their 'plans', they won't accept you either ! Besides, there are too many out there who say they're non-profit, but they charge you fees out the bazoo and most of your money goes to the 'service' and not your creditors. To use 'credit counseling' you need to be VERY careful and ask a LOT of pointed questions before you sign up for anything. Some of them can wreck your credit more and faster than you can yourself !!!

You have to be cautious.. and diligent to go this route.

Totally agree - offering options

Never surf the web for a credit counseling service. Always consult you states Consumer Affairs division. There are some very good operations and they do provide some credibiliy to your situation when dealing with creditors.

Your contempt for debtors is disturbing but understandable given your source of income. I suspect that the "costs" you refer to have as much to do with creditor greed/capitalism as the do with bad-debt write-offs.

IAAL, You Must be Correct, AS Usual

IAAL,

“Well, for whatever reason (probably a lack of education), you don't have a good enough job to afford services that you can't pay. That's not our fault. You are correct, as usual. I just wish I could have been a lawyer in a cushy office. I am sure my lack of education is the reason I don’t have a good job.

I received a MS in Software Engineering while serving my country in the Army for 20 years. My education served me well as a defense contractor for 10 more years. Perhaps, if I had studied harder in school, I could have anticipated the service-connected injuries and the debilitating diseases that now prevent me from working.

Had I studied harder and become a lawyer, I am sure I would have been able to save and invest enough to pay my family’s medical bills and still have plenty of cash in reserve. Instead I am left with debt after exhausting my savings, 401K and investments in an effort to keep up with medical bills.

I admit my bills are my responsibility and I intend to satisfy my debts if I can. I do not like the position I am in, but at the moment I can do nothing about it. I asked for help from this Forum. I did not expect an elderly curmudgeon to cast aspersions on my education or character. Is this what you do in your golden years? I would have thought your experience would be better put toward helping others help themselves.
