I really appreciate all of the response. This is kind of a touchy subject because my husbands ex-wife will not give us my step-daughters social security card or her medicaid card. The poor girl has never been to a dentist because we can't afford to pay for it. We have had to take her to the emergency room and got billed for it. My husband is not working at the moment because he hurt his back at work.
It is really important for us to be able to get insurance for her, but her mom says that she can guarantee that her common law(ha-ha) husband has better insurance.
Thank you for any response.

One reason the mom maynot be co-operating is because she's on the medicaid card with the daughter.....

Hmmmm...

The only thing I can speak from on this subject is my own experiences...I have all 3 of my step children on my insurance as their 2nd insurance. My husband is their primary carrier. What I needed was a signed letter, notarized, from my husband and his former wife, stating that I could add them, and I could take them for treatments, emergencies, routine checkups, etc...So they have a primary insurance co. and a secondary one. I also had to send along, a certified copy of our marriage certificate. We are in Jersey, if that make a difference.??

Hope this helps...

Take care.:)

medicaid card. The poor girl has never been to a dentist because we can't afford to pay for it.

If the child is on medicaid, then dental is included and if the medicaid program is being properly administered by your state, then it should be denied renewal if the mother is not obtaining regular medical and dental care for the child.

I would contact DFS and ask them if you can get the child's medicaid number or go to the judge and tell him the mom refuses to provide this info to you which endangers the child's welfare while in your custody.

There's bound to be a way around this if the child is on medicaid.

Very good. If she is being such a pain I don't know why should would have to know about it either. I can't see anyone complaining because their child has TOO much insurance.
