Interstate Visitation (breast-feeding newborn)

What is the name of your state? TX

Hi all. This is an update questions.

Father moved to NY then a couple weeks ago back to CO wherewe both lived when the child was conceived.

The father was notified of the child's birth and encouraged to visit, but became angry and went 5 weeks with no contact until 2 days ago.

Paternity has been established through child support services and a conference has been set.

The baby was born 3 weeks early and is a breastfed baby.

What type of visitation will typically be ordered in interstate cases in regards to breastfeeding infants? Are the first couple visits supervised if the child has not met the father a few months after his birth? Do I need to bottle my breastmilk for the father's visits if I haven't before?

I do believe Texas has thier child visitation plans online somewhere, start with the Texas government pages and see if they have links to thier family court services, there are also others here very familiar with TX court system who might be better to answer your specific questions.

but until then, here is my 2 cents, based on my experience with different states, but the basics are likely the same.

In most states, visitation with an infant is done, with frequent visits of short duration. (a few days throughout the week for example, working towards overnight visits) the fact that there is major distance between you will hinder that process, but the father should still be getting some form of visitation.

Also, unless there is reason to believe a child is going to be in danger, you likely have no basis for supervised visitation. the father needs time by himself to bond with the child.

Eventually the father will be able to have visitation in his home state, when that will happen depends on the discretion of the court, if the two of you cannot come to an agreement.

Thank you, haiku, I found out that TX does not require overnight visitation until 3 yrs old...will research further. I edited my message to make other questions more clear.

Janet, stop editing as Haiku will be the only one who knows what you posted prior. Make new posts but leave the others so that all the information is there.
