What is the name of your state?OK

My boyfriend owes in back taxes to the IRS. We plan to marry. I have been told that if we marry, they IRS could seize everything I own once we are married to satisfy his debt. Can they really take my home and other assets? I have also been told that the IRS can freeze my bank account if we have a joint account. and can come take all my assets by just walking into my home.

Whoever gave you that info is incorrect.

Since he incurred the IRS debt before YOUR marriage, the IRS cannot hold you responsible. They cannot take YOUR property to satisfy HIS debt. However, if you have joint accounts, with HIS name on them, then the IRS can take that money. You would then have to prove what part of the siezed funds were yours. If you are the owner of a home that the two of you plan to live in, then you would be wise to have proof of prior ownership for all of YOUR property IF the IRS were to attempt to sieze property from the home.

If he owes the IRS a lot of money, you would be wise to keep ALL finances separate and do NOT file joint tax returns until he clears the debt with the IRS.

It is always wise.... never to marry someone who is in debt. Let him pay it off, then marry him.

If you were one of my children, then that's the answer I'd be giving you.
