Is it legal for an employer to discharge you after giving you permission to switch shifts with another person and after they accept it they fail to show?

Basically my Employer discharged me for after the fact of giving me permission to switch shifts with another person and they accepted but when they day came he failed to show . And they didn't let me know anything, so they counted it against me. So I really hope somebody is able to enlighten me on this situation. & I live in Maryland.

It is perfectly legal for employers to fire their employees for pretty much any reason, except for those reasons specifically prohibited by law (such as your race, gender, religion, age - if you're over 40 - and/or disability). So yes, it was legal for your employer to fire you under these circumstances. Sucks, I know, but that's how the law works.

Definitely legal, and depending on the exact circumstances I'm not even for sure prepared to go with unfair or unethical.
