Is the illegal and/or unethical?
What is the name of your state? MA
An attorney for my aunt's estate wants me to sign a disclosure or settlement paperwork (whatever it is to settle the estate). The paperwork says that I waive my rights to any actions against him civilly or criminally.
I did not want to do this because of a pending investigation against him for animal cruelty. He killed my aunt's cats. He neglected to feed them or remove them while in his possession. And from what I understand is serious violations of the law, not to mention just cruel to begin with. He just locked up the house for four months w/ no action.
He claims that if I don't sign, he will find whatever loophole in the law to come after me personally even if it takes him 5 years.
Furthermore, he claims he will file criminal charges against me. I have no idea for what. He won't tell me noR will he put it in writing. IS this considered backmail or extortion?
What would be examples of this. He claims he can ruin my life. He also told me if I pursue this action w/ the cats, he will make my life a living hell.
He claims he can do it too. He also to me it will cost me alot of money, and he will insure that he will persue me that I reimburse the estate for his fees, and anything else that he wants to thow in. PLEASE HELP??????????
