***sorry if this is not posted in the right thread, I did not see a thread for teenage runaways..
okay, here's the story...
17 yr old niece begins seeing a drug dealer. parents are understandably not happy and do not allow her to see him so she decides she knows everything and moves out. the parents had an officer mediated meeting with her when she made the decision to move. per the officer's instructions, she was not allowed to take anything out of the house since it was her decision to move.
couple of weeks go by with no word from the daughter. parents find out from a friend that the daughter is staying with another friend (part of the druggie group that she had been caught lying about in the past). THAT girl's parents are total screwballs and in total denial about their own daughter's issues. says their daughter is not allowed to drive to the parents house.
daughter finally calls one day and asks for her contacts. both parents work and were not able to take the stuff to school, so they say they will leave the stuff she needs in a bag on the porch and she can come get it at anytime.
2 more weeks go by, she's never come and got the stuff. they finally get a call from her school nurse, her eyes are all puffy because the contacts are bad. parents get pissed because the school basically accuses them of purposely denying her the stuff. they have a meeting at the school with the counselor and the daughter. the daughter walks in with distinct bruises and scratches on her body. parents question her....she says her friend did it on accident when they were hanging out one night. but she was snippy, so they knew she was covering for something. parents explain that she had plenty of opportunity the last 2 weeks to come get the stuff she needed, why didn't she? daughter says "no one wants to get involved."
a week later, the parents find out that the daughter was in a car accident with the friend she is living with. probably where the bruises came from....the officer involved at the mediations had explained previously that the parents are still required to provide for her medically. but the parents were never notified their daughter was in a car accident, so they are being denied information on their daughter's health. furthermore, the other girl's parents refused to allow their daughter to drive her over to get the contacts and other medicines.
do the parents have any recourse against this family she's living with? can these other parents get into trouble for not allowing her access to her own home to get her stuff? can they get into trouble for not informing the parents that their daughter was in a car accident? I would tbink if this family was SO CONCERNED enough to take her in, that they would provide her transportation to get items that she needs.
