What is the name of your state? Colorado
My daughter-in-law is very obviously mentally ill. At the present time she is occupying herself with false charges with law enforcement against family members. She has exhibited a severe personaity change from a sweet, caring person to a very paranoid individual who has lost all her friends and who is accusing various family members of beating her, of trying to kill her, and similar charges., Unfortunately she files these charges and is making life miserable for her relatives. She has custody of a child and has managed to convince him of these things too. One day she might claim that her husband is gay, or cheating on her with a woman and then it might be the same person is beating her, or the charges go on and on. The courts have been very ineffective in dealing with this to this point. She has broken every court order that she has been given with little more than a slap on the wrist. We are very, very concerned about her son who has been told his father is a terrible person, that his grandparents and other relatives hate him and her, kept out of school from time to time for as much as 3 weeks because one relative or another might kill him if he goes.

We are totally desperate to get help for her and for her son.

I hope that there is some answer we have tried everything we can think of.

Does your son live with her? Are they still married? Has he tried to gain custody of his child? Does he have visitation and if so does he utilize it? How old is the child? Has CPS been notified regarding the truancy and mothers mental health? If so, what did they report?

more information on question on involuntary committment

My son is not living with her as she now has an injunction against him. She filed the injunction by listing her arrest record number for assault on him as his number and the judge did not check it so she regained the house and son after she got out of jail. We are being told that it is not sufficient grounds for reversal and subsequently the judge has allowed her to stay in the house with primary custody of their son. Her next try was to charge my son with beating up her son regulary and punching him in the mouth and even though the school and other people who see him every day say that is not true and she has no evidence at all it has gone to court. As a result of that my son now has 10 hours a week. The first day was last Saturday and she refused to bring her son to the exchange point where they are forbidden to be at the same time because she was too afraid, so broke the court order for visitation. The court told her not to do it again. The court told her to give my son his financial papers, she has refused, she was ordered to not dis her husband and his relatives in front of her son. We have witnesses to hours long rants about how evil I am and her mother is and any one else, including her husband who has tried to testify to get her some help.

They are still married and the middle of this crazy custody battle where she lies and lies and has no proof, my son has never hit anyone much less his wife and child and yet is constantly on the defense against criminal charges.

SHe keeps dragging her son to the police station to file charges against his father, but mostly they know her by now. She called 911 because she was mad at me, to say that her husband was trying to kill her and then when the police got there, he was bloody with a broken nose and deep scatches and she did not have a scratch. She tried to get the jail to send her to the emergency room saying she was hurt but paramedics said she did not have a scratch on her.

One relative did get through to my grandson and he said that wished his father would contact him and was upset because he did not. The aunt told him that his mother had filed an injunction keeping his father from contacting him and then she was telling him his father did not want to see him. I specifically asked the school to call child protective services when he was not in school, but because she took everyone's name off the list of people authorized to pick him up from school or whatever and because she extended the injunction to forbid my son from contacting the school we have no way of knowing that this has happened.

A neighbor independently contacted child welfare saying he was concerned about the way she was feeding this 13 year old lies and convincing him they were true. She also still sleeps with him and picks out his clothes each day, etc.

This is a very sick situation. So far I have spent $20,000 trying to defend my son and me against these ridiculous charges. The awful part is that she truly believes them until she switches to the next obsessive idea. My son is currently out of work and actively looking for a job so he has some limited resources.

CPS has a family evaluation going on but she has so far refused the court order to get herself and her son appointments saying that they are not crazy. I do not understand how she keeps getting away with this.

All of us, her mother included, would like to get her some help.
