My accountant was billing me $3000 a month and saying it was for monthly accounting. About 8 months later I switched doctors who put me on a bi polar medicine and switched my other pills. Within the month I was thinking straight and this time told her I send her no monthly records so there is nothing to do until the end of the year. And that she was billing me when I owed her nothing until the next years taxes were due. Then I said I wanted all my money back from the last 8 months and she said she will have to work it off..
This just sounds illegal to do. She was my book keeper as well so I was just going along for so long until the pills brought me back to sound thinking and I realized my book keeper was a rip off con. She acts no nonchalant its amazing.

Sure. It could be a crime. More details would help determine this better - including the name of your state. Laws can vary substantially from state to state which is why we ask for this basic information from all posters.

I am glad the new medications you have been prescribed are helping you to think clearly now.

She was working in Virginia when I engaged her services and i live in Virginia. Later she moved to New York.
I had just got scammed by a construction con man and I spent hours telling her my story and stating I will never pay up front again. I asked her what her hourly rate was. She is on thumbtack and it said her hourly rate was $60 but I now think that is wrong.
As for the contract I can't find it. After 6 months on the bi polar pills I started thinking better and realized how unorganized I was. I can't find any contracts or anything.
I went to her because I was using turbo tax and messed it up and wanted her to fix it. I didn't hire her for a salary. I hired her as an out sourced accountant at an hourly rate. If she was a salaried employee I would be paying unemployment and other taxes which I would not do.
She ended up doing exactly what I was complaining to her about with the construction con man

Thank you for providing your state name. Here is a link to the Virginia Bar Association where you can find an attorney in your area who can offer you advice and direction after a personal review of the facts.

https://www.vba.org/page/referrals_complaints

If the accountant is licensed - either in Virginia or in New York - a complaint could be lodged against her with the licensing board. The attorney you see can tell you whether this is something you should do.

Good luck.
