What is the name of your state?

Texas

Ok, here is my question, this morning I recieved a parking ticket for parking in a handicap spot in front of my apartment. The thing is though is that the only thing that designates it as a handicap spot is the painted sign on the ground. Other than that, there is nothing, and I mean nothing; no extra space to get out if your handicapped, no ramp, no sign, nothing to assist a handicapped person. It's just a 6 and 1/2 foot wide regular looking parking spot which just happens to have a handicap picture painted on the ground. Is this a true handicap parking spot? Thank you.

My response:

What do you need to be convinced? Would you like the space to be indicated with airport landing lights? Fireworks? Perhaps, you'd like a real handicapped person to guard the spot?

Usually, a blue-painted insignia of a wheelchair is sufficient for most folks to believe, and even understand, that such a spot is for handicapped parking only.

Oh, and as for the space size itself - - sometimes, property size limitations don't allow for "oversized" parking spaces; but, it's marked anyway. Sometimes, life isn't always fair - - even for the handicapped. However, it appears that your apartment owner/landlord is, at least, attempting to make an effort to help the less-fortunate and make life somewhat easier, whereas, you're not.

YES! Why would you park in a handicapped spot? Do you have a permit? Do you realize there are people that truly need these spots (even if the handicap is not visible to you)? I know in GA, the fines START at $60.00, and work their way up to $500.00. If you don't pay the ticket the first time, a bench warrant is issued and the fine moves up quickly (according to a Fulton County and Atlanta City Police Officers I know).

Next time you go to park in a spot that is marked for a handicapped person, think about what it woujld be like if it was you or one of your parents for instance that truly needed the space, and couldn't park there because someone was being so inconsiderate as to park where they weren't allowed!

Handicap Parking Issue

I have a question:
First, let me explain.

My family owns a fairly large business with a small retail store next to it. In front of this retail store are five parking spaces one being handicap. The retail store happens to be a coffee shop and all of the local cops hang out at it daily. I have maybe seen one legit handicap person park in that spot in the past two years. Here I come, in a rush, just going to run in and out, park in the handicap spot. Now, one of the local cops, that is friends with my father, knows who I am, and knows my car, writes me a $300 parking ticket!!

This is not a city spot. It's on my family’s private property. Furthermore, he could have beeped me on the cell and I would have moved it.

Can he give me this ticket legally???

Okay, so if we go on the premise you know the police officers in your city/county, then if you shoot at someone, they should just forget about it and let you go on your way? I realize this is not a shooting, but what you have done is illegal. You should be held to the same laws as the rest of us. You aren't special because you know them. I know several Leutenants in my city, but I won't abuse that by assuming they will allow me to do things illegally.

Private property means nothing. There are fines and those fines are posted. Even if they aren't, if the spot is designated for the handicapped, then that is what it is for. DO NOT assume someone is not handicapped because you can't see the disability. There are people with asthma, heart disease, nerve damage, and it is not visible. How dare you assume they are fine just because you can't see what is wrong. Just because they don't have a cane, crutches, a wheelchair, etc., does not mean a thing!

You deserve the ticket, so pay it and be quiet!

SJ..

You're right! What is the sentence for this crime? :) I will take responsibility for my actions and do whatever is necessary...well, within reason of course. I don't think the death penalty is warranted here, but I'll let you be the....judge! LOL I couldn't resist! I know, bad....

Whew! I thought it was going to far worse than that!!! I think I can handle 23 seconds. Now please, don't tell me there is a three strike rule, or I am in for some hard time as I can't promise it won't happen again! :p

Sorry...just got excited I was able to get off so easily from this crime! :D

John 8:11 "...quae dixit nemo Domine dixit autem Iesus nec ego te condemnabo vade et amplius iam noli peccare..."

John 20:21: "...dixit ergo eis iterum pax vobis sicut misit me Pater et ego mitto vos..."

Pax vobiscum means "peace be with you."
