What is the name of your state? Michigan
I am currently employed by and international corporation as an assistant manager of a retail store. I have worked for this company the past 7 years as a store manager and have received nothing but positive reviews and positive recognition. Due to a recent merger, my store's lease was not renewed and I was given a position in a higher volume store as an assistant. I have MS and have never missed time from work due to the disease up until the last year. I have been on a restricted schedule since July. My current manager says he can only schedule me 12 hours a week per the needs of the business because my doctor has limited my work hours no later than 3 pm. Although I have spoken to the company human resource director numerous times, I always get the same answer. I told her that "per the needs of the business" is a very vague phrase and would be similiar to writing up an employee for insubordination without any documentation. There are many things in my new location that are not being done that I could be doing "to meet the needs of the business". I have even given specific suggestions of things he could put me in charge of that are currently not being done. He says because of my limited hours, I cannot perform those tasks.
My current manager treats me differently from the other employees. He got the lock changed and said that due to the new companies' policy, only 3 staff members could have keys. He then left a key distribution form dated and signed by all the employees who received keys out in the open. I could help but noticing all the employees names were on that list (more than 3) but mine. I made a copy of the list.
Do I have a reason to contact a lawyer?
