Recently, I was terminated from a major corporation via phone by human resources claiming I lied during my interview regarding a past job in which I resigned and have legal proof I resigned. Apparently they originally recieved this information from an unknown 3rd party. I am guessing a disgruntled ex. I am being told, per their investigation, my prior employer is stating I was in fact discharged. This is not the case and I do not believe they would lie as they are law enforcement. Following my termination, a co-worker has told me 1. False rumors are being spread regarding my termination. 2. The rumor mill is now claiming there is a sexual harassment claim against me. I feel this is wrongful termination by defamation and is tort. And now my name is being slandered. I have not recieved any formal documentation or any advisement of allegations. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. Followed by false allegations of SH that are likely also my ex. I can not prove its her. But this is destroying my life.

Not a wrongful termination. Sorry.

Original Poster, if you and your former (law enforcement) employer disagree about your being discharged/resigned it may be, (and of course we have no way of knowing, though you do) that you were allowed to resign in lieu of some other result, such as a possible termination after an investigation, then they very well might feel obligated to tell another entity, particularly one in the same field, that you were terminated, or allowed to resign under a cloud so to speak.

If there were absolutely no problems at your past job which led to your resignation, all was roses and sunshine, no questionable behavior on your part had ever come up, glowing reviews all over, then why were they willing to discuss something, and as you say, their being law enforcement and not inclined to lie to your future employers, why did they lie?

That your ex wife or whomever, anonymous phone call, would call your current employer and tell them this would be mildly curiosity stimulating, if I were your new employer. I would doubtless call your former employer and check on the allegations, just to be sure. If they then found out something that motivated them to want to fire you, it would likely be because they found out there were really some problems with that past job and they were willing to disclose them to you. And they could very legally fire you, simply because they chose to do so in an "at will" state. They really didn't even have to tell you why they were doing it.

Nothing illegal has happened, and you could talk to an attorney if you want to about your termination, or about suing your ex-wife for slander, but if you cannot prove it was she who gave them the information, and if information is true, that's not going to work very well for you.

File for unemployment insurance and move on.
