What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? texas

my husband had a few traffic tickets, 2 no insurance tickets, 1 expired tag, and allowing a nonlicensed driver to drive, he didnt go to court so they added 3 failure to appears and issued an arrest warrent...fines came to 1,856.00.. judge is making him set them out in jail. which is fine, but dont jails have certain regulations they have to follow?? these guys in jacksonville jail only get fed twice a day (breakfast and dinner) they get no rec time (in their cell 24 hours a day) no windows, no bars, just a solid room with a metal door. they get about a 5 minute visitation on tues., thur, and saturday. and are not allowed to wear their wedding bands or any religious medalions. i know theyre in jail but its city jail not federal prison...

Jail is not a country club. It is intended to punish those that thumb their noses at the laws of the land. It should also act as a deterrent so folks won't do stupid things again. Of course you are not aware that after your hubby is released you will get a bill so he can also pay for his stay at the Graybar Hotel.

nobody said it was a country club but even mass murderers and child molesters get 3 meals a day and a little sunshine......and also, FYI, they dont bill you after sitting your fines out in jail, actually they pay you, you get 100.00 a day here for sitting in jail. (of course it goes twords paying your fine)

If you noticed I said after. Why should the taxpayers pay for a common criminal to sit on their butt? In many cases, especially in city and county jails, the former guests often get a bill sometime after their release.

actually its not the taxpayers who pay... the jail gets federal and state grants , so much money for each inmate they house.. i do know that much for a fact and i know lots of people who sit their traffic tickets out in jail and dont know of ANYONE who has ever gotten a bill. and by the way isnt this supposed to be a forum for legal advice? I didnt know it was a forum for people who think they know everything. but thanks for your input anyway.the question still remains, arent jails supposed to follow some sort of regulation guidelines?? they should get " 3 " meals a day and at least one hour of recreation time.

that is the site for texas jail standards and regulations.... although most of the small town jails do not fall under the jail commision standards and regulations, meaning they preaty much make up their own rules...

You're right. There should be Jail regulations. They should have doors with bars on 'em.

Doors with big fat steel bars, in front of 6ft X 9 ft cells. With two bunks bolted to the wall. Every cell should have one inmate named "Bubba". Every Tier should have one guy named "Lefty". They should bring back those big irons balls with the chain attached, running to the prisoner's ankle. They should all wear black and white stripped uniforms. They should be given metal cups to rattle on the cell bars. They should be fed bread and water if they get sent to Solitary.

Yeah... like THAT. :D

LOL..... that was funny guys.... but seriously i do agree with thumper, small city jails dont have real criminals.... like she said, her husband is just sitting out traffic tickets cuz he cant afford to pay for them....its not like he killed or raped someone.....y'all will be there someday (behind those big steel bars, with only bread and water)... over something really stupid and rediculous.
most small town cops look for reasons to pull people over. and in texas if you dont pay your fine, in the slammer you go.....(so y'all watch out comin through texas, they like out of staters)

Where do you think money for state and federal grants comes from? Gee... Let's see... Could it be taxpayers?

That must be an issue that varies by state. Our county jail is paied for out of the county budget. We are reimbursed for convicted felons who haven't been picked up by the state yet and inmates in jail on city charges. If they're awaiting trial or serving a misdemeanor sentence, the county pays for it.
