I am currently employed by a very large bank as a branch manager with Assistant Vice President as my title. I have been with them for 9 years. Recently my employer sold 6 local branches to a local bank with branches next door to each of the sold branches. It is my understanding that the contract guaranteed positions for all employees (33 total), regardless of longevity, except for the managers(there are 5 of us). Are they allowed to single us out like this? Is there anything we can do? I'd appreciate any feedback on this. Thank you, jeb3d@att.net

If your state of CT is like CA as to having an at-will policy, then there is nothing you can do. An at-will policy provides that employers can terminate an employee at any time, with or without a reason. Likewise, an employee can quit at any time, with or without a reason. If however, you have a contract of employement that guarantees your employment until a certain time or in the case of a certain event, then you have more rights. However, to be sure what your state provides you, I would suggest speaking to an employment law attorney near you. You can find one at attorneypages
