What is the name of your state? Illinois

I anticipated being named in a lawsuit by a nursing home company to collect outstanding debt.

If I fight the suit in court and I lose, the court will enter a judgment against me.

My question is: If I get served the lawsuit, should I just file for bankruptcy as the amount in question is very large.

If a court enters a judgment against me, will I still have the ability to file for bankruptcy?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

My response:

Why would you be sued? Were you the signatory to the contract?

Yes, the Nursing Home tricked me. I wanted to make certain that I would not be liable for outstanding debts -- and they stated that if I signed as an immediate family member, that would not be the case -- but my attorney stated that they had me sign a form that, to my dismay, made me the guarantor for his stay.
