What is the name of your state? oh

My landlord lost the rent check. He thinks he threw it away. My landlord called me 9 days after my rent was due and asked if I paid it. I paid him on the 31st, rent was due on the first. He told me to wait another week to see if the check cleared. It didn't. I told him it was going to cost me $30 to stop payment on that check. He said not to do that , but he still wanted me to write him another check. I wasn't comfortable with that, so I stopped payment on the check and asked him (left message two seperate times on his answering machine) to split the cost with me of the stop payment. He never returned my call. So, I reissed him a check, minus the $15. He is now upset about that since he said not to stop payment, because he thinks he threw it away and it will never "reappear". Who is responible to pay the $30 stop payment fee?? The landlord or myself?

Sorry I "hijacked" another post. Didn't mean to upset so many people.

$30! Riiiggghtt what was that The Bank of Bull...

Why not round it of to an even $100 and say you had to buy food on the way to the bank.... who are you kidding?

If the landlord lost the check they should cover the real stop payment fee which is probably $10 or find the check.

Show him the bank charge for stop payment.

Grasshopper... you woke up on the wrong side of the bed... you must not have had to do a stop payment in awhile...
Confucius say... bank get greedier every day even if computer do all work now.
my bank is $25.00 for a stop payment. Oy!

shellme... show him the stop charge charge...(no I didn't stutter) if he is an agent for the landlord he might be in trouble with the company so it might be coming from his own pocket (happened to me) so try to work nice with him.. they are responsible in my opinion for the entire amount, so the 15 should be nothing to him. I wouldn't re-issue a check without a stop-payment either.

I would suggest before anyone posts to this airhead, take a look at the crap he handed out in another thread at: https://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?p=93862#post938762

Rather than being reasonable and saying something like 'sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread or post to one that is almost two years old', this dweeb pissed and bitched. All because he tried to hijack a long dead thread.

I'm sorry "jetx", but you have me confused with someone else. The other post I, as you called it, "hijacked" was my first post. I wasn't aware there was a time limit on when you ask a question. And I didn't "hijack" anything, sorry no guns involved. (awful strong word, don't you think?) It was a simple mistake, and instead of being negative and nasty, you should be a little more kind. (try a little more sugar in your coffee in the morning, it might sweeten you up a little). Are you that miserable that you have to take your negativity out on everyone else? I hope your life gets better! Have a wonderful day. one last thing, I never said I was a man..... :)

Nope, not at all. Though it appears that I pasted the wrong link into my post.
The correct link is: https://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?t=158659

In that thread, you posted (emphasis is mine):
I didn't mean to "HIJACK" the posting. You guys are real friendly here!"
And as noted in my earlier post in this thread... all you had to say was something like: "sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread or post to one that is almost two years old'". Instead, you became a smartass.

I wasn't trying to be a smartass. I made a simple mistake and was attacked verbally. Not once, but a few times by you. I didn't "hijack" anything. Now that I defend myself, you now call me "ignorant, abusive, airhead, pissy, bitchy, and a smartass" "South" calls me a liar. And I'm the one being nasty?

All I wanted was a simple answer to a question I had. I'm not a lawyer. I needed to know what the law was for Ohio. Thanks all.

No I did not call you a liar I stated a renter would never lie.

I told you the landlord should be responsible for what ever the amount is... And yes I think you are BS-ing about the $30.

Not unreasonable fee

For your info the last time I stopped payment on a check it cost me $32.00. So the $30.00 charge is not unreasonable for a bank to charge. :(
