landlord and pets

michigan - I have a lease on a house with 4 other people when I signed the lease the owner gave me verbal permission to have a dog. the landlord sold the house, and now the new landlord says I cant have a dog and have to get rid of the dog or leave. the original landlord gave me a letter stating i was allowed to have the dog. now he says i am in violation and if i leave, i have to find someone to take my place. i will leave if he wants, but what are my rights

Sorry, but its hard enough to know the law in one state, Illinois, which this forum is the subject of, let alone adding Michigan.
