One might wonder why the "good person" chose to have a child with the "not a good person".

The same as the laws in Ohio for visitation and rights of married people. It would be unconstitutional to have two sets of visitation laws based on marital status.

With only one exception. If the couple is married, paternity is automatically established. If they're unmarried, paternity must be legally established before those rights kick in.

So the first step is legal establishment of paternity. Once that is done, Dad can file for custodial / visitation rights and child support will be determined.

Now paternity is NOT visitation. You are now talking about the law dealing with establishment of paternity. That is a different subject and there are different methods of establishing such.
