Lawyer in an accident??

If he is in an accident, dead or in jail or some situation beyond his control, and can't perform his duties, is he suppose to appoint another lawyer to my case or at least notify me?

If he's in an accident that keeps him from practicing law, do you REALLY think he's in any condition to talk to you? If he's dead, do you really expect a call from him? If he's in jail, how do you expect him to contact you, or you contact him?
