What is the name of your state? Michigan
My daughter signed a lease that mentioned nothing about pets.... definitely nowhere did it say "No Pets Allowed". She was given a kitten as a gift recently. The landlord saw here holding the kitten and said nothing. He then, a day or so later, notified her that pets were not allowed and has since produced a lease that includes the highlighted statement "No Pets Allowed" . She has been told that she will either have to get rid of her new pet or move out.
She does NOT want to move and would be brokenhearted if she was forced to give up her kitten (as would be the kitten).
There are 3 roommates involved in this lease. They all signed it... and one just happens to be the uncle of the landlord. He has not "had time" to respond to Meg's phone calls as he is "going out of town", but has found time to take his niece out to lunch, which is not a common event.
(... and... his other niece lives in the back apartment and owns a puppy)
Please advise us of her rights. Any input will be greatly appreciated!
thank you very much,
Mom for Meg
