What is the name of your state? Louisiana

Basically, we are waiting for a judgement to be signed so we can appeal. The other side knows this and has already tried to threaten/hassle us about appealling at all.

Well, the reasons for judgement were given on December 18th and the judgement STILL has not been signed.

This was for a change of custody and as a result, my husband, who had sole custody, has not seen his children since Dec 19 and his ex is interferring with his phone contact and just being really, really horrible to him. She has gone so far as to say that the kids would be coming to visit and then changed her mind a few days later. She says she can do this because she is the domiciliary parent.

If the judgement has not been signed, doesn't that mean that my husband still has custody? The judgement, when signed, grants joint custody with her as domiciliary.

My original question...how long can they hold up signing this judgement?

Thank you!

You can try searching for court rules that apply to your county or state. A lot of time (at least in NY) such decisions are left to the discretion of the judge or court.

The judgement took effect when the judge rendered his decision in open court.

Have you spoke with your lawyer about your appeal? Are you sure you must wait for the judgement to be signed?

You're getting dangerously close to your deadline to appeal.
