I post on a public message board for a Soap Opera that I enjoy.

I dislike an actor who was recast for my favorite character.

I've been pretty harsh in my opinion of his acting talents. Comments have been clearly marked opinion on his talent. Comments have been clearly marked based on my interpretation of comments made in print.

I received an email from the actor's fan club that if i don't stop the public harrassment and bashing, including racial comments, then I will hear from his lawyer and ABC's lawyer.

I have never said anything remotely racial about him. The closest I came was to say he looked Latino.

My question, can I retalitate for being threatened for libel when nothing I've said even comes close to it. I've even said some very nice things about him on the message board. I've said he is a decent actor -- he would have made a very good Juan (a different character) but I've said he doesn't have the talent to play the character I care about.

what can I do to stop these types of threatening emails.

why should I have to stop something

I enjoy.

I was asking for legal advice. So I should just allow a person who I feel is wrong to win. And the effect it would have on all fans of any show -- any message board. Nope that's not the answer.

sorry - I won't be intimidated. I was asking if there was a way I could fight back with legal action to stop the threats when he has no basis for a threat.

About what ?
I suggest that you get a life outside of television.
No one has "threatened" you.

Tell the folks at his fan club to pack sand where the sun don't shine. You are exercising your free speech as guaranteed by the Constitution, and the actor, as a public figure, is open to public ridicule. Actors and other in show business are slammed and called every name in the book, it comes with the territory. Unless you hear from someone representing the actor himself (very highly unlikely), don't worry about it.
