Thanks for the tips guys/gals.

As I feel a little like I'm getting some flame for this, I'll point out a couple things.

1. I have had not notice about this until now. I mean no mail, no calls, nothing at all. I have had the same address in Mass for the past 20 years so something is amiss.

2. I'm still just assuming that the issue is due to the citation I mentioned. It's possible it's not to do with that but as I've not been told anything over the past years I do not know yet and will update.

I think most people would not be so quick to pay/handle an issue that they really weren't aware of. Anyway, I appreciate the helpful comments and will write updats so anyone else might find this helpful as well.

You ARE aware of it (assuming that it's the citation in CA). However, I don't fault you for gathering more information.

Not to mention that it could have been contested without an actual appearance. I once got a CA ticket while a MA resident and took care of it in the normal manner....online traffic school and a check payable to the El Cajon Superior Court.

So I have learned today this citation is not as I suspected. It's actually due to a "modified exhaust to amplify sound" citation from 2011. I know 100% I've never gotten such a ticket and it was attached to a California address I have never heard of. There is no attachment to my license # or actual address only my Name and DOB. I have been told by several friends in Los Angeles that police have been know to take down license plate #s at car meets and write out tickets using information from the plate scan but never actually give a person the ticket. It's easy to get away with as the person doesn't find out until it's too late. I imagine that is what's going on here and I can't do a thing about it. I have $494 to pay to the GC Services plus $55 to the DMV for reinstatement.

Thanks for everyone who was helpful and no thanks to the condescending folks that seem to think people should just fork over money and feel ashamed or foolish for ending up in this kind of position. Police forces world wide are very capable of making $ by inconveniencing people so much that they give in and pay rather than fight for justice. That's especially true of Australia and it's really a sad thing to see people lose hard earned money to a purposefully designed system.

I'm not sure what can be learned from this scenario but it's here for people to read in the future and I'm outta here!

If this was happening, it would be big news. Hearing from a friend who knows of people who have had it happen reminds me of this:

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
