What is the name of your state?Pennsylvania

Hello,I Work for a Steel co. We were previously owned by J & L Specialty Steel Alleghaney Ludlum purchased our co Back in June. I worked on the Prep line and Slitter lines. 2 and a half yrs ago they shut the Slitter line down so I had wait wait until atleast 14 people retired or bid on other jobs to get back on the unit I was laidoff worked at other units until I could get back to the Prep line. When Alleghaney took over they wanted to combine my unit and another unit together they said the needed 9 people, with the retirements I would hold but if they kept the lines seperated I would work on 2 turns but they wanted three between both. The Polisher was the other unit they wanted us to combine with we had 7 left on the Prep line and 2 on the Polisher. The Polisher has not ran since the new co. took over they took the 2 guys and moved them around 3 guys I was one of them. They were suppose to train our senior operaters off the Prep line to take these guys jobs because od seniority but they have not but they took those two guys and train them to take our jobs. My unit is now down to 2 turns the three guys that waited all this time to finally get our jobs back are now knock of the unit, and now the Polisher my start up and they want to put the 2 guys that came from the Polisher back on the Polisher as operaters not going by seniority. I believe our seniority rights have been violated because they are trainning the 2 guys of the Polisher on our jobs and not trainning our senior guys for there jobs I want my job back. I feel if they come to our line and work they should take the lower jobs the same way if we go to there unit we have to take the lower jobs.

What are my legal options

I have my grievence rep on it but because it was a contract negotiation he he trying to get it thrown out because it was stated that the jobs on the polisher were temporary, they only needed the polisher to finish orders from the previous company.

Since you have a grievence procedure in your contract, a court would probably require you to "exhust your remedies" under that grievence procedure before you take any action at law.

From one union member to another: I would wait and see how your grievence comes out before going any further. Where you would legally go depends on how your grievence ends. Sit tight.

I went to my first grievance meeting, and I ask a questin that seemed to stunn management. I asked If it wasn't for forfilling the previous owner Arcelor contract with a polish order would the Polisher had ran. Management said probably not not it seems more clear that the union and company both negotiated my job away my grievance man is on my side to get me my job back but the union president and the general griever are againt me and I believe it is because the person that took my job is on the committee with them, the Polisher has not ran now nor aree they trainning anyone I asked will it run again they said maybe one day. What are my options.
