What is the name of your state? TEXAS
My twins are 2 1/2 and their father (never married) pays his child support because it comes out of his check but he has never seen his children and has no plans to. The question I have is that he has not paid his 1/2 of the medical expenses on them since October of last year and its up to about $300 now that he owes. He ignores my letters and returns my certified mail. As this is considered Contempt of Court, what can I do?
I called an attorney and he said he needed to owe me at least $1000 to be worth taking him to court. But can't I just file a contempt charge on him so it will be on his record? I am very frustrated and do not know what to do because now the doctors think one of the boys may be autistic and I know the medical bills are fixing to increase a lot.

My personal understanding is that contempt is very expensive to file. The person you are filing against must be detained, which costs a lot. Even if you went about filing without a lawyer, it would still be expensive. Maybe that is why your lawyer said your ex needs to owe you $1000 before it would even be worth it.
