The hospital absolutely may not release the records of his stay to you unless they are under a court order to do so, or else have a written authorization from the person whose records they are. That is Federal law - that infamous "HIPAA" you've heard tell about.
You also need a written authorization to obtain his credit history.
While the law does not prohibit an employer from providing their information, few if any will do so. They don't even like giving it out to other employers - they're sure as heck not going to give it out to a private individual without a fight. And you would have to go from employer to employer - contrary to popular belief, there is no all-in-one database wherein lies a full employment record. Not outside IRS, the SSA, and the state unemployment offices, at least. And they're sure not talking.
As for college attendance, get real. My husband teaches at the unversity level, and I doubt he could come up with attendance records for his students last term. If all you want is yes he did/no he did not take classes at such and such a university, you can try the burser's office and if they're in a really good mood and don't have much to do that day, they might look it up for you. If you say please a few hundred times.
