My father-in-law served in the military for over 20 years. He had filled out his paperwork for his pension, and said it had been turned in. Unfortunately, he suddenly passed away, and when my mother-in-law was to collect on his pension to help support their family, the military said she could not collect because they are reporting that the paperwork was turned in after the deadline. My father-in-law has now been gone for a few years, and we are still fighting with the military about this. He served so many years - how can they deny his family this pension because of a few days discrepancy on the due date of the paperwork? Is there anything we can do legally?
