Shocked Again

Guest
I have been going through a terrible divorce in Washington state for the past 3 years. My "X" and her lawyer planned this for over a year in secret, then have constantly attacked me for the next 3 years. The litigation is outrageous and has cost me everything, all my money and both daughters, We had been married for over 20 years and this entire fiasco is shocking to me and the kids.

I just foud out why, I think. My "X" has just reveived a "reward" of over $1 MILLION , under the federal False Claims Act. She turned in her employer for falsely billing the Federal Government for years. She claims that the money is not community property , as she filed her claim for the reward after we separated (rather, after I left the house so she would stop yelling at everyone). She claims this even though we both worked on the initial investigation and document examinations (she was worried about her liability) and the family made a joint decision to support her in all ways, when she finally blew the whistle. All that happened while we were still married. It seems that she kicked me out of the house one day and blew the whistle the next day, so she would not have to share the money with me. (no kidding) no information about her expected reward was mentioned in the divorce property settlement, even though I tried to tell my lawyer and the court.

1. Could I have a claim that such funds are community property?

2. Would her lies and misrepresentations to me and the court and her 3 years of harassing me in court (to keep me busy so I wouldn't find out about the reward) amount to Fraud, sufficient to sue her on those grounds?

Thank you!

You might try researching for cases with like scenarios. I recall a case where there was lottery winnings hidden from one spouse. When the judge found out about it during the divorce proceedings, they were awarded to the other spouse. That would certainly change things around.
