'Minor' question

I am a 16 year old female and live in Florida. I have a best friend that lives across the state ((Approx. 3 hours away)) that my mother will not allow me to visit. If I were to just go would it cause any legal situations? Or just a possible grounding from her? Would it get my friend's parents in trouble, or even possibly my friend, since they are 19 years of age? Also, where could i go to get emancipation information? Can I file for emancipation myself? Or does the parenthave to agree and everything? Any information on this at all is highly appriciated. Thank you

Your "friend" would be arrested for kidnapping and if your friend's parents knew, they would be too. You don't want to have them involved with the FBI. Stay home.

ARTICLE I


FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.--Juveniles who are not under proper supervision and control, or who have absconded, escaped or run away, are likely to endanger their own health, morals and welfare, and the health, morals and welfare of others. The cooperation of the states party to this compact is therefore necessary to provide for the welfare and protection of juveniles and of the public with respect to (1) cooperative supervision of delinquent juveniles on probation or parole; (2) the return, from one state to another, of delinquent juveniles who have escaped or absconded; (3) the return, from one state to another, of nondelinquent juveniles who have run away from home; and (4) additional measures for the protection of juveniles and of the public, which any two or more of the party states may find desirable to undertake cooperatively. In carrying out the provisions of this compact the party states shall be guided by the noncriminal, reformative and protective policies which guide their laws concerning delinquent, neglected or dependent juveniles generally. It shall be the policy of the states party to this compact to cooperate and observe their respective responsibilities for the prompt return and acceptance of juveniles and delinquent juveniles who become subject to the provisions of this compact. The provisions of this compact shall be reasonably and liberally construed to accomplish the foregoing purposes.

No judge will emancipate a minor because their parents are doing their job. Two more years and you can ruin your life. Good Luck

well lets not forget anything a minor does that is against what and adult
thinks is ruining our lives. we are not smart enough or mature enough or
even really people at all we have no rights cause we don't know no better.
you wonder why the country is going to hell. respect us a little. adults
give responsibility when it suits there needs not when it suits ours. they
have experienced everything so we do not know anything. that is my opinion
but I better watch it cause I am a minor I wonder if I have the right to an

Every teen has the same story. Every parent has the same problem with their teens -some situations being more difficult than others. When you are 25, you will have a completely different opinion of your situation. If adults were not right, then they would not be in charge of making the laws that keep under-age people out of harms way. When teens listen to their parents, things go well for them as they mature into adults. When they don't listen, things go badly, and they wonder why...but no adult is wondering why. Did you ever notice that? That's what maturity is.

The only way to think maturely, or like an adult, is to put yourself in their shoes. Run this whole weekend run away scenario through you mind as if you were your mom.

The mature, adult-like thing to do would be to ask your mom again, with more rational convincing reasons why you should visit your adult friend(s) across the state border, and calm her fears by letter her know who will be the responsible party there besides your 19 year old friends. Don't lie, because she can verify anything you say with a simple phone call. And keep your emotions under control.

Yeah, well.... when you're able to write a complete sentence w/o any grammatical or spelling errors, maybe adults will take you a little more seriously. Until then - stay in school.

I, too, knew it all once. My parents lived to ruin my life...so I moved out. You know what? There has not been a day since that I haven't asked to move back in because you have no idea how expensive it is. I have three kids, and when they are old enough to know it all, I am going to hand them the bills, tell them how much $$$ per month to work with and find out where does all that knowledge go.

Of course. This is what we, as parents, live for! We must make our children as miserable as humanly possible. Although we cannot wait for them to get out of our homes and deal with life on their own, that would make them happy so we must insist they remain where we can continue to torment and torture them on a daily basis.

Just as an FYI, Sarah, while I don't know offhand if your state permits emancipation (not all states do), in the states that do permit it, it is just about universal that first, you MUST have your parent's permission and second, you MUST be able to COMPLETELY support yourself without assistance.
