Mistake on License Plate #

What is the name of your state? Citation State is NY

I have out of state (midwest) license plates and was ticketed for double parking in New York City. When I checked the NYC computer listing of my citation, one of the letters on my license plate has been recorded incorrectly. Can they enforce the ticket? I am in New York regularly in the same location as where I was ticketed and don't want to get towed.

Incorrect plate number is a fatal flaw to the ticket, and it "should" be dismissed on that basis.

You can mail it in with a brief statement to that effect, but you run the risk of losing and having to appeal (they usually get it right on the appeal). Otherwise, if you can spare the 45 minutes, run down to a PVB office and do it in person.

Thanks for the info. Should I even contest it though? If I contest I have to give them my contact info. With the incorrect license plate number, can they even find me to enforce the ticket?

Well, how else did you intend on proving that the license plate was wrong?

But in any event, they can't amend parking tickets like they can with moving violations, so if the ticket is wrong, there's nothing they can do about it after the fact.

What I meant was, if I just ignore the ticket completely, with an incorrect license plate they would never even know who I was or who to contact to enforce the ticket right? If they (NY City) have access to the license plate data in my state (MN), entering the incorrect license plate number won't find me right? So why not just forget the ticket completely. Or am I missing something?
