What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My boyfriend is an MMA fighter. He had a minor ankle sprain during his last fight and the promotor that hosted the fight is obligated to cover his doctor visits with his insurance. A requirement of the state athletic commision is that a doctor give him the ok to fight again as well. His next fight is scheduled for May 1st.

However, the doctor just happens to be the promotors wife. Now, they have my boyfriend in the doctors office multiple times a week for "treatments" for what they claim is a bone marrow birth defect. He has only had an MRI and I was informed by my own doctor that an MRI could not determine a bone marrow defect. Also, my boyfriend was originally injured almost 2 months ago now and is very frustrated that this doctor is now saying he might not be able to fight on May 1st.

I believe that the promotor and his wife, the doctor, are using my boyfriend to fraud the insurance company. What can we do? My boyfriend does need to be cleared by a doctor before he can fight on May 1st but he doesn't have personal insurance and the promotion company is obligated to cover his medical expenses.
