What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
My condo is 13 unit each unit have a private laundry room. after 20 years lived here we find out that 6 units had there laundry rooms electric outlet connected to house meter on a separate electric circuit labeled washer/dryer unit # and that is located in the common area. and the other 7 unit there laundry rooms outlets are not. our board want to rewire the 6 unit to the unit meter. the cost of that is 5k. that is not considering any increase to our condo insurance premium due to the change in our main electric system and the cost of hiring electric engineer and city permit, fire department permit if need it work inside each units dry walls paint . My laundry room outlet is connected to the house I believe that this future came with my unit when I bought that mean I paid for this connection at that time therefore I should not rewire. Also I suggest to the other 7 units they have a choice either connect there unit to the house meter or not. but if they want to connect they should do so at there own expense since there unit did not come with this future when they bought there unit. so they have to pay the cost of the wiring of there units if they wish to do that. now or in the future. if we compare the cost of rewiring the 6 unit VS the electric monthly saving from that it well take us about 15 years to break even with the money we well spend on today. Our association in need for the money today to fix another issues that more important than this issues. Our board put that on ballot to vote on but if you look at the out come is 7 unit not connected and 6 unit connected they have the majority of vote even if all the 6 unit say no they well be able to have the majority to do it any way. Do they have the right to do that? specially the board members are the one not connected to the house meter. Please give me your take on this ASAP because we having a meeting this week to finalize the vote. thank you

**A: private electrical fixtures should not be connected to common area electrical period.
