What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Me n my husband live in Tx. Ok so here is the background.... My husband n ex wife shared the standard visitation 5yrs ago, when there youngest was 5mths old she left both of their daughters under the care of her mother n father while she attempted to go to school 100 miles away, it didn't take her long to shack up with some guy n get remarried to him, she would come dwn everyother wkend to see her girls, one wkend she took her girls to where her n her husband lived. Her husband did drugs ( we did not know anything about him @ the time) he pulled her by her hair n dragged her down their hallway in front of the girls, the oldest @ the time was 5yrs old n she called 911_ the gradparents found out n was wanting to take full custody from her n my husband along with sharing custody with my husbands mother. His mother said no then came to us about the situation, my husband decided on sharing custody with his mom, the other grandparents n his wife. We were livin n a rundwn 1 bdrm appt with a baby, he was the only one wrking while I was going to nursing school, he felt it was better for the girls to stay with the grandparents @ the time. Court papers stated they must all b n agreement when anything is to happen to the girls so she couldn't take them again if 1 of the parties disaggreed. He was the only one ordered to pay child support n provide insur. Now we have been doing alot better we have a house n have two kids of our own, the grandparents let us see the girls as much as we wanted up until about 5 mths ago..... Back earlier this year the grandmother had lots of heart problems so the girls stayed with us the majority of the time, so much that my husband asked if the girls could go ahead n live with us, he wanted to wrk something out instead of going to court, the grandparents kept putting us off ( keep n mind 5 yrs have passed since the mother left). One day my friend told me the mother had posted on her facebook that she was taking the girls to her place of residence for the wkend, the grandparents were keeping this hush hush, n didn't want my husband or his mother finding out. My husband confronted the gandfather n he basically told him it wasn't up to my husband to make that decision, my husband explained to him he didn't want his girls around his ex's huband n still didn't know anything about him, to make the long story a little shorter we got a lawyer. 4mths ago the grandfather was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, the girls mother came back dwn as if she moved back ( to look better for court I'm guessing) the grandfather recently passed, he was a popular man in our community, about 1000 people attended his funeral. The grandmother knows the judge really well that is supposed to b doing our custody hearing. The mother n her husband moved their selves back to our town, neither one of them had a job where they lived, now the husband is wrking on the coast with one of her uncles. My question is how good of a chance do we have in getting full custody? We both are wrking n have been @ our jobs for more than 4yrs, stable home, against a grandmother who has friends n high places who is helping her daughter get back into the girls lives very quickly? I'm sooo frustrated! Help! What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
