My father is a refugee from Vietnam and has the incorrect birth date on his naturalization record, driver's license, passport, etc.

The only proof he has of his real age is from his birth certificate in Vietnam and the birth date he disclosed on my younger brother's birth certificate and my own birth certificate.

How can I help him go about changing his date of birth?

Thank you for your help.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Is there a particular reason why it needs to be corrected? The reason why I am asking is that its going to take some seriously major effort to correct all of that, and unless there is a really good reason to do so, the cost of doing it might vastly outweigh any benefit...and could possibly raise issues that might be better off not raised.

A consult with an immigration attorney would be in order here.

Thank you for the reply! He would like to have it corrected, so he can collect social security at the correct age. His papers say he is 58, however he is 62 from his birth record in Vietnam.

So, in other words, he had no problem with the mistake until now, when he wants to collect social security....

Yes, he's worked over 32 years in the US. He didn't understand the legal system and was worried that they would strip him of naturalization. I'm his daughter and I'm just trying to help.

Unless you want his whole naturalization to be opened for scrutiny I really WOULD NOT go there. That is not a simple error, its a major one. Do nothing without consulting an immigration attorney.

I don't mean to upset you but its possible that there were some irregularities in your father's immigration to the US.

ok, well I am going to go out on a limb, after 32 years, it is going to be nearly impossible to change his DOB (not his name) in order to retire on social security.
