What is the name of your state?Texas. There were several people who were very helpful when I recently asked questions about common law marriage in the state of Texas. I hope that you have more to offer.

I am at the end of my rope. My ex-girlfriend will not leave me alone. Even with proof that we are not informally married, she continues to insist we are married and I have to get a divorce from her. We don't have any property or children between us. There is nothing for her to gain. I don't understand why she is so insistant and why she won't leave me alone.

Aside from turning her into the police (which would send her back to prison for 10 years), what can I do?

Thanks!

If you are not aficially married than there is no need for a divorce. You can go to your local court house and see if you can get a protective order out on her. That way she can not contact you in anyway.she can not call you, talk to you in private or puplic,or anything like that.if she tries to contact you if you have a paper served on her than she will be aressted.good luck and I hope I helped you out a little.

My response:

How about this - - "Be a man!".

What the hell do you want us to do?

An update

Texas...The past year and a half has been one of the worst roller coaster rides in history, and I hate roller coasters! I've had to deal with the ex from you-know-where who still to this day will not let go and accept that it's over. She still wants to believe that we were common law married, and refuses to believe otherwise.

As a warning to others out there who are leaving someone you've lived with, do whatever it takes to make sure that when you leave no mail addressed to you is ever delivered to the ex. I changed my address with the bank, and a couple of credit card companies that I have accounts with but I didn't stop all of the other mail...the junk mail. Several credit companies sent those "you've been pre-approved" letters in my name. All were delivered to the old address where the ex lives. She filled out the forms, signed for me, and opened almost a dozen account. She maxed out every account, defaulted on several of them, and basically ruined my credit. I've had to deal with trying to clean my credit record by getting the accounts in my name closed and get them off my report for over 3 months. I filed a report with the police as soon as I knew what was going on but they haven't done anything.

The ex keeps doing things to ruin my life. I thought that once I found out about the credit fraud and put out an alert that things would get better after the long hard work of dealing with all the companies. I really thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel, even if it was a long ways away. Then I realized that I hadn't received my W2 for 2004 for the company I was working for when I left her. I didn't remember to contact them to do a change of address and they mailed the W2 to the old address. It's not just the extra step of getting a new form. It looks like the ex used my W2 and filed a joint income tax return, signing for me.

And you know what? No one seems to care. The police won't work with me. The federal government doesn't seem to care. Even some of the credit companies are being a pain about closing accounts she opened falsly. I am tired of dealing with all of this. All that happens is that I keep finding out new things she has done using my name and information and no one will do anything about it! No one believes that I am who I am, even with proof! She can do whatever she wants and get away with it. There is an arrest warrent out on her for harrassment, but the cops won't go get her even though she is in the same place at the same time every day. She knows that nothing is going to happen to her so she keeps calling any time she wants. The middle of the night is her favorite time. She leaves long and disgusting messages. She even states that she knows she is being taped but knows that the police won't do anything to her. And she is right!

I am about to get married to the most wonderful woman. We are very happy but all of this has become too much for us. Neither of us has done anything wrong. We've tried since July working with the police and the feds, first with the harrassment and then with the credit fraud. They don't seem to care and do nothing. Why we should live a miserable life dictated by a sick woman who can't get over a breakup, and police officials who are too lazy to do their job is beyond us. We are very tempted to change our name, social security number, driver's license number, and just move far away. But then we realize that the federal government has also let us down so where is there to go?

We just give up.....there is no justice in Texas or America!!!!
