Who do you think you are fooling? You had notice of this hearing long before today,(Sunday) You were served of the Order to show cause and you know it. The sheriff just happened to roll into town and notify you tonight?

OHHHHH i forgot i an only back 850.00 its costing her more to take me to court than i owe her. Good for her. It is only more than that if she is being represented by a attorney. How would you know all this anyway? Sheriff knocked on your door and told you?

What can i do in court to help me????? Don't fabricate your story like you did here.

First, it costs her nothing, only you and the rest of the taxpayers will foot her legal bill (SHE gets free legal counsel, curtisy of the DA's office)

Second, there is not much you can do, like any other debt you owe, you need to pay it (with one distinction, failure to satisfy this debt would put you in jail)

Third, bring some cash to court, hard cold US currency, preferbly all the arrearages, if not, some "good faith" will do (no less than one month's support; no b!tchin', find the money) skip your car payment, rent, utilities something. Believe me you will have a better chance of saving your car thirty days late than you will from escaping punishment from this case.

Fianlly, regardless of the laws, if you are representing yourself, do not lose this opportunity to state your side. However, such phrases as "it is to much money," "I just bought a new ____, and can't afford it," "please let me go this time, will not happen again," DO NOT HELP YOU! You have ERRED! You must justify your lack of responsibility, admit you owe it, WILL PAY IT (whip out your cash at this point) and will never neglect your responsibility again!

Get the Point! There is no way out of CS. Every parent is obligated to support their child. NCP's are just in a position where they have to PROVE the cash spent.

Future advice

If you loose a job, you should notify her and the courts IMMEDIATELY!!!! (Certified Mail).
Next time you agree that there are "no problems"......... GET IT IN WRITING!
WITH HER SIGNATURE ON IT(PREFERABLY NOTARIZED)!
I know of 2 states that the NCP is not obligated to pay when loosing a job, hopefully that will not happen to you again...........ask a local attorney, most give free consults and may answer that question.
Second...........I hope that you did not give her cash.
I hope that was a mistake, I hope that you sent it through the courts.
To help yourself, send all payments by check or money order and keep a file.
You are in Georgia, pal!!!
I have to agree with everyone here though on one aspect......what took you soooooooo long to ask for help?
