What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida Trying to find out what steps to take to the following: In 1984 gave birth to a boy, gave up for adoption to grandparents, now he is 27. For the last 12 years he has known I am his birth mother. How do u go about having the birth certificate changed to show his birth mother? He does not quite understand why it does not.

When you give up a child for adoption, you no longer are a parent. The adoptive parents then become mom and dad.

You would have to adopt the boy back.

Your child is 27? Mine is 14 (and only 14 by three days) and understands why her adoptive birth certificate doesn't have the names of her biological parents!

It's like, you know, they aren't her parents anymore.
