Hi,

I am recently divorced and my divorce has been finalized (in Wisconsin). My ex currently resides in the home we had together and I do not. I want my name removed from the mortgage and have been getting the run around from him. I talked to the bank he has the loan with and they told me all he has to do is come in and fill out paperwork for free and refinance. I sent him an email asking him to do this and he said he is doing "home improvements" and wants to wait. Also that he plans on going through a realtor friend of his and not through the bank anymore. I am getting very frustrated with this because all I want is my name removed. Should I get a lawyer?

Thanks.

all you have to do is pay off the mortgage or get the other co-borrower(s) to refinance the mortgage in their name(s) only.

You got it edited while I was typing.

does your divorce decree require the ex to do what it takes to get your name off the mortgage?

**A: so you did not have a divorce lawyer?

Generally, this is outlined in the divorce decree. If it was not addressed, you have no means to compel him to speed up the process.
