What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maryland
I was wondering if I could collect money from my Ex for bills that I had to pay that both of our names were on? I am a single mom of two and I have one heck of a dead beat Dad on my hands. We bought a house together (not married) but with both of our names on it. I think that maybe he stayed there for a few months before he left. I took care of the house and all the bills that came along with it. We had many accounts open together a car loan, the house, personal loan, medical bills that were for the kids etc.... Before he left we bought a car (both of our names) and he let the payments get behind and lied many many time about money and they came and took the truck and left "us" with over $5,000 left to pay.....shortly after that we went our separate ways and he disappeared for 3 years, no child support, no money, nothing. I was only making 13 an hour at that time with two kids (one just born) and a house and everything that came with the house (bills). I made it through and and was able to keep the house etc..... but that 5k that was due turned into a judgment and they started coming after me, trying to garnish my wages and so on and nothing was being done to him. To make a long story short..... I was finally able to refi my house and get his name off of it, but when I did that I had to pay off all of "our" debt and judgments etc.... and he got off free and clear.....Now, my question is again, can I go after him for all that money (well half) since he was on them. If so, what are the steps? I am tired of falling in his shadows and cleaning up after him so that I can better myself and get out of this whole that we built together and he never has to pay a dime, yet I am the one with the kids all the time and get Child Support here and there. Please give me some light at the end of this long tunnel. Thank you in advance!
