Interesting reading, I especially like the end of the article where someone says:

"The question is whether this law is going to be interpreted where women will be treated fairly in the courts, or not."

That pretty much sums it up doesn't it?

The article doesn't really say much about the points of the new law other than lifetime alimony will no klonger be a given in long term marraiages whereas limited duration and/or rehabilitative alimony will become more frequent.

I guess so long as it is starting to be recognized that alimony laws need to be reformed, it is a good thing that an overhaul was done. Perhaps other states will be galvanized to do so as well.

Although I really like the Texas model!

I believe the new law also got rid of using the payor's new spouses income to calculate how much the payee receives. That was a major issue along with the lifetime alimony awards for short term marriages.

Ooh...I missed that point. I skipped a few lines when it started talking about encouraging marriage over cohabitation. As if there's any difference between the two in terms of ending alimony. One is just easy to prove and one is next to impossible to prove to the court's satisfaction...

Again, at least some kind of progress if being made.
