My grandparents own rental property in New York, but have lived in Connecticut for many years.
It has worked out ok up until now, but there is a tenant who has been there for 7 years who not paid for quite some time - he will make partial payments, then fall behind.
My grandfather passed away last year, and my grandmother does not drive, and is unable to get to the city during the week.
She will call, but he doesn't answer the phone - since the family works, most of the time we can only bring her on weekends and he is never there.
She tried to have him legally evicted, but the case dragged on because he claimed hardship due to 9/11 and being unemployed etc.
Since he kept making partial payments it never got resolved, just continuing -she stopped that after paying 4,000 in legal fees and no action could be taken.
Is there anything I can do for her long-distance? I can call and write letters -for all the good it will do, but now he is $4,000-5,000 in arrears based on his partial payment.
